Antarctica’s first showing in Tasmania

John Kelly is showing for the first time his series of paintings from his residence at the Australian Antarctic Division at the end of 2013. The show, called Beyond Woop Woop: John Kelly’s Antarctic Paintings, launches on Friday 12 June 2015 at 4pm at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery in Hobart.

According to the Gallery information:

‘Woop Woop’ is the larrikin-name of the airbase at Australia’s Casey Station in Antarctica which appealed to Kelly’s dual senses of humour and isolation. Aptly titled Beyond Woop Woop, the exhibition also depicts Kelly’s exultant response to the Antarctic landscape: the vastness, strangeness and magnificence of its mountains, icebergs, and the light night sky.
